Spearhead Timberworks expanded its operations with a 14,000 sf production facility in Nelson, BC. Spearhead Inc. is a multi-faceted, value-added manufacturing company specializing in the design and fabrication of architectural timber and steel. The project’s use off mass timber marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to innovation in the timber industry.

The industrial facility uses mass timber construction, including cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels supplied by Kalesnikoff. The state-of-the-art facility highlights how sustainable and efficient mass timber design combines with advanced technology and traditional craftsmanship. The strategic use of mass timber and pre-fabricated wall assemblies to establish a clean structural frame met the challenge of the project’s economical budget. The facility’s gravity system showcases cross-laminated timber decking over glulam girders and purlins supported by CLT walls and pre-fabricated timber cassette walls.

The Spearhead facility showcases how mass timber, can be used for both functional an aesthetic purposes in the construction of industrial facilities.
