The Sacred Heart Schools project in Atherton, California, is a 4,000 square metre classroom facility comprised of four 1,000-square-foot classrooms, each equipped with natural lighting and restrooms.
Kalesnikoff supplied the Cross-laminated (CLT) panels for the roof and walls, and Glulam (GLT) products. The CLT panels for walls and roofs were prefabricated offsite and installed in an impressively short 11 weeks to mimimize disruptions during the school year. This approach aligns with sustainability goals, reducing construction timelines, material waste, and overall project costs while achieving high energy efficiency. The panels arrived on site complete with architectural finishes and additional building features, so installation was efficient and reducing construction timelines. The building’s interior showcases exposed timber and ample daylighting, enhancing the learning environment for students and promoting a calm, natural aesthetic.
This mass timber school project reflects a growing trend toward sustainable mass timber construction, especially in education, offering cost-effective, high-quality, and environmentally conscious solutions for schools.
