The City of Lacey, Washington, is building a new police station to replace its outdated 1985 facility. The project includes a 48,000-square-foot law enforcement building and a 9,500-square-foot training center. The design of the station allows for future growth, with plans to expand the total area to nearly 80,000 square feet and provide parking over 550 vehicles.
Mass timber, specifically cross-laminated timber (CLT) and Glulam (GLT), has been selected for the construction, with Kalesnikoff choses and the supplier. Mass timber was chosen for its sustainability and strength, as it offers an efficient alternative to traditional materials like concreate or steel. Additionally, the mass timber improves energy efficiency through superior thermal insulation, and aesthetic appeal, complementing the community-oriented nature of the police station.
