Design Technician

Role and Objectives:

The Design Technician, under the Director, Manufacturing, Planning & Strategy, is responsible for supporting the Sales Team and Project Manager in concept design, 3D modeling and critical project elements to ensure successful design of Mass Timber structures.  You will interpret the project plans and ensure the structural design maximizes the best possible use of our Glulam & Cross Laminated Timber products, while meeting the customers’ vision and objectives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and prepare designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data.
  • Create building information models (BIM), using computer software, to provide digital representations of physical and functional aspects of buildings and other engineering projects.
  • Operate computer-assisted design (CAD) and drafting workstations.
  • Use on-screen tools to measure distances and angles.
  • Convert distances on scaled drawings to actual dimensions using the drawing ratio.
  • Use geometry, trigonometry and algebraic formulas when detailing the relationships between shapes in drawings.
  • Make changes, corrections and improvements to scale drawings and project schematics.
  • Produce 2D shop drawings for timber and steel elements.
  • Create assembly drawings.
  • Develop and prepare design sketches.
  • Examine the continuity of designs through multiple drawings and views to confirm the alignment and placement of drawing elements.
  • Evaluate the suitability of design elements and make suggestions for improvements where needed.
  • Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets.
  • Write short notes and annotations on drawings for builders and manufacturers to supplement visual information.
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Engineering Design Technology
  • (1) years of experience as a design technician, or a BIM Technician.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer programs, include MS Suite programs such as Excel, Word, Power Point and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to read structural, architectural and mechanical blue prints.
  • Experience with CADwork, Rhino, Rivit, or other 3D software.
  • Great time management skills.
  • Receptive to change – can adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.

 

Work Conditions:

  • Primarily seated desk work, with occasional walking to/from other offices, and production facilities, as needed.

Drywaller

Role and Objectives:

The Drywaller, under the direction of the Director of Innovation & Fabrication is responsible for building, installing, applying and attaching interior wallboards or wall coverings and ceiling board. While most of the work will be for functionality, such as fireproofing and acoustic damping, some will be intended purely for decorative purposes. Other duties may be assigned as required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Trims rough edges from wallboard to maintain even joints, using knife.
  • Fits and fastens wallboard or sheetrock into specified position, using hand tools, portable power tools, or adhesive.
  • Measures and marks cutting lines on framing, drywall, and trim, using tape measure, straightedge or square, and marking devices.
  • Install blanket insulation between studs and tacks plastic moisture barrier over insulation.
  • Removes plaster, drywall, or paneling, using crowbar and hammer.
  • Assembles and installs metal framing and decorative trim for windows, doorways, and vents.
  • Reads blueprints and other specifications to determine method of installation, work procedures, and material and tool requirements.
  • Lays out reference lines and points, computes position of framing and furring channels, and marks position, using chalk line.
  • Suspends angle iron grid and channel iron from ceiling, using wire.
  • Installs horizontal and vertical metal or wooden studs for attachment of wallboard on interior walls, using hand tools.
  • Cuts metal or wood framing, angle and channel iron, and trim to size, using cutting tools.
  • Cuts openings into board for electrical outlets, windows, vents, or fixtures, using keyhole saw or other cutting tools.
  • Adheres to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances.
  • Reports equipment defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the equipment.
  • Operates equipment such as computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other operators.
  • Delivers product and proper paperwork to our customers in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Ensures that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of equipment is cleaned up.
  • Clean and maintain painting and coating, ventilation, compressed air and personal protective equipment.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
  • Working closely and respectfully with and around other trades.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Certification, diploma or degree in related field preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience as a Drywaller
  • Knowledge of construction equipment safety.

Forklift Operator

Role and Objectives:

The Yard Forklift Operator is responsible for receiving lumber transfers, staging orders for plant feeding, and maintaining an organized yard. Key qualifications include strong driving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently. The operator collaborates with the logistics coordinator and shipping team to meet scheduling needs. This full-time role offers varied hours and growth opportunities into additional shipping tasks.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Store and organize lumber material efficiently and in a manner that maximizes efficiency and capacity of the yard
  • Stage orders of lumber in correct sequence that allows for specific run dates based on plant and yard requirements
  • Understand different product types produced by KMT, and correctly handle each type of product with a high level of care
  • Offload transfer/lumber trucks in the most efficient manner possible – potential for loading lumber loads out of the KMT yard as well.
  • Work with the logistics coordinator and production forklift operators to understand consumption needs and ensure consumable inventory is present and accessible

 

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of forklift experience is preferred
  • Onsite Level 2 forklift certification is preferred.
  • Mature and able to work unsupervised with a high personal standard for quality of work.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of truck loading standards i.e. weight allowances, distribution, and how to safely load/offload trucks is an asset.
  • Forklift work specific in a mill setting is an asset.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily seated in a 30,000lb counterbalanced forklift for the majority of an 8hr working day – not including breaks.
  • Operators will be required to climb steps in and out of the forklift cab repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Operators will be required to lift and manipulate objects up to 40lbs.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment mandatory throughout the yard.
  • Occasional exposure to hazards associated with manufacturing worksites and standard mobile equipment care.

IT Technician

Role and Objectives:

The IT Technician, under the direction of the IT Manager, is responsible for day-to-day IT assistance to users, to maintain and deploy IT infrastructure, and to help implement new IT systems and technologies. IT Technicians are responsible for the smooth running and maintenance of a company’s computer and network systems. Their roles include troubleshooting, setting up devices and software, identifying issues with computer hardware and helping solve customers’ technical enquiries.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely and effective IT technical support including computer/network hardware and software installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Provide orientation and guidance to employees on how to operate new software and computer equipment.
  • Develop and maintain IT documentation, including IT asset tracking, knowledge base articles, and end user training guides.

Logistics Coordinator

Role and Objectives:

The Logistics Coordinator will support the Logistics Specialist and collaborates with the KMT shipping team to provide daily instructions and manage shipping documents. Applicants should have strong attention to detail, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. This full-time role may require extended hours to support the shipping department.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Prepare packing slips for all outbound KMT loads.
  • Prepare customs paperwork for US bound shipments, as well as occasional material brought into Canada.
  • Get quotes on shipping lanes and provide shipping rates to the estimating team when requested.
  • Identify the most reasonable rate, along with the carrier best suited for the job – seek to understand current trucking industry and how rates/availability of trucks fluctuate.
  • Gather necessary project data from PM Team and distribute to carriers and the shipping team as required.
  • Actively communicate and provide daily trucking ETA’s to project jobsite receivers and shipping team.
  • Establish direct connections with jobsite receivers and carriers.
  • Work with KLC to schedule movement of transfer material to KMT.
  • Notify KMT production and KLC team if specific lumber products are dwindling in volume by monitoring Milltech.
  • Organize and facilitate quarterly inventory counts of lumber onsite at KMT.
  • Organize and create labels for loose items (hardware/splines/membranes/etc).
  • Identify and track PEFC/FSC certified projects.
  • Provide time off/vacation coverage for logistics specialist.
  • Other duties as requested or required.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and basic computer skills.
  • Mature and able to work unsupervised with a high personal standard for quality of work.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Willing and able to adapt to changing conditions on the fly.
  • Knowledge of trucking industry and loading standards ie. weight allowances and distribution, and how to safely load/offload trucks is an asset.

Role and Objectives:

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the payroll process to ensure accurate and timely payment of salaries and wages to employees while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations, and company policies. This position will have one direct report. Other responsibilities will include responding to ad hoc requests, implementing efficient payroll systems and processes, journal entry preparation and reconciliations of payroll related accounts, and providing staff assistance to the Director of Finance. Integrity and strong attention to detail are crucial for this role.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and direct payroll procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and payroll tax obligations.
  • Responsible for overseeing at least one direct report.
  • Monitors payroll activities and program components ensuring effective department performance.
  • Supervise and coach the payroll team, providing training and support to ensure departmental outcomes are achieved.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of payroll with other business processes.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of a variety of payroll related documents.
  • Reconcile account balances to maintain accurate balances and comply with related policies, practices and/or regulations.
  • Resolve payroll related issues and discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Inform personnel, carriers, and financial institutions about required documentation and procedures to complete transactions.
  • Compile and verify payroll data from a variety of sources to ensure compliance, accurate fund distribution, and program monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare required reports for management and government agencies.
  • Liaise with auditors and regulatory bodies for payroll tax audits and compliance reviews.
  • Facilitate and attend meetings to identify actions, develop recommendations, support staff, and exchange necessary information.
  • Respond to inquiries to provide information and direction.
  • Stay updated with current payroll regulations and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Other duties as requested or required.

 

Requirements:

  • University degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance is preferred.
  • Payroll Leadership/Management Professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years of payroll related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations and tax laws is required.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with US payroll regulations and tax laws is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, internal controls, and management.
  • Proficiency in payroll software such as Dayforce and Microsoft office suite.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems such as Microsoft Great Plains and Epicor.
  • Skilled in managing the processing of hourly and salaried payroll, bonuses, commissions, and other forms of compensation.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting procedures, payroll processing principles and applicable legislation/regulations.
  • Experience with audits, payroll taxes, health benefits programs, disability programs, and group retirement plans.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and transactions.
  • Ability to prepare ad hoc reports using Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for the analysis of issues and the creation of action plans.
  • Responsible for executing a variety of technical tasks, with a requirement to periodically enhance skills to adapt to evolving job requirements.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Ability to respond to high pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor.
  • Highly conscientious, with an energetic and mature approach to his or her work.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

Working Conditions:        

  • This role is based primarily in an office setting. The role may require occasional travel to other company locations.
  • Overtime as required.

 

Compensation Package:

  • Salary: 85,000.00 – 105,000.00
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday
