Royal BC Museum - PARC - Kalesnikoff Mass Timber

The Royal BC Museum PARC Campus, the provincial archives, research and collections building, incorporates mass timber construction as a key element of its sustainable design. PARC will provide critical infrastructure to preserve the province’s collections of over seven million culturally significant items and the BC Archives, as well as dedicated research labs and learning resources. The design and construction process involved partnerships with local Indigenous communities to ensure the building design reflects Indigenous cultural connections to the land and territory on which it is built, the traditional ancestral territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) peoples.

True to our collaborative approach, our team worked closely with the engineers and architects throughout the pre-construction phase. The natural, carbon-capturing mass timber structure is inherently appropriate to the building’s forested West Coast location. Mass timber aligns with the project’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve high energy efficiency. Upon completion, the 15,200 square-metre collections and research building will meet CleanBC energy efficiency standards and LEED Gold certification.
